Fantasy Markets is a study that follows up on Gary Germeil's doctoral thesis seeking to identify and validate criteria that make AI characters believable. In the thesis, it was found that reaction time, personality, expertise and meta consideration were four important criteria in determining whether a player is human or an AI (Germeil, 2022).

The experimentation featured in the doctoral thesis used a card game named Magic : The Gathering and asked two juries of judges to appreciate the nature of the player (AI or human) and tell us their reasoning.

For the current research project, the study would focus on No Man's Sky from Hello Games in order to analyze the impact of player behaviour on the flora and fauna of a colonized planet. The first results will be presented in the En-Jeux conference on the 25th of May 2023.

The current study is called Fantasy Markets because player behaviour incorporates commercial activities and trade with other sentient beings during the course of gameplay.
